Our Team

Bart DeCanne

Founder & CEO

Bart founded Sophatar Inc in August 2014 with a vision to create a truly novel experience at physical venues by leveraging the various mobile, sensor, video and audio technologies he worked on for 20+ years at chip and OEM electronics companies. Before founding Sophatar, Bart was VP Product Marketing at NASDAQ-listed Audience (since then acquired by Knowles), a leading supplier of voice and audio processors for mobile handsets. Before that, in reverse order, he was business director for Cypress Semiconductor's touchscreen product line, executive director of business management at Maxim Integrated Products for multiple product lines, product line manager at Silicon Labs for video products, and WW marketing manager for mixed-signal video products at Texas Instruments. Bart started his career in his native Belgium at Barco, a leading supplier of professional digital signage and projector solutions. Bart holds a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ghent in Belgium, an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the author / co-author of 5 issued and additional pending patents.

James Bates

Advisor

James is an experienced high-level executive at technology companies and was most recently an officer of Freescale Semiconductor, a leader in the automotive and IoT technology markets. As the SVP and GM of the Analog and Sensor Group James managed over $900M and 800 people and created an executive turnaround that led to all-time record gross margin. Prior to Freescale, James was VP and GM of the Precision Electronics Group at Maxim Integrated Products, and VP at Silicon Laboratories where he was responsible for management, sales and business activities in the Asia-Pacific region. He built the infrastructure that enabled growth from near 0 to over $300M in locally created revenue. James holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University.

Yashwant Prakash

Advisor

Yash has over 15 years of experience in technology, new business and startup technology environments. He co-founded a VC-funded high-growth B2B2C technology startup (SnapBizz) in contextual consumer engagement and is currently serving as a board member.

Prior to SnapBizz, Yash managed and drove a broad range of strategic vertical-led initiatives and GTM strategies at Qualcomm's incubator, creating a retail framework, automotive platforms, and consumer engagement solutions for venues & themeparks. He incubated ideas and created new businesses and projects. Yash has co-authored several IEEE publications and has 7 patents pending to his name.
